IdeArti Graphic Art 2025

Aġenzija Żgħażagħ, together with the MAVC Malta School of Art, unveiled a new edition of IdeArti with three rising Maltese artists—Greta Holland, Marina Natalia Gusarov, and Christabelle Saliba—showing new works at the School in Valletta (Nov 13–Dec 12). This year’s edition revolved around Graphic Art. From mental health to the long-lost Maltese Falcon, a symbol from Malta’s natural history to generational memory, the graphic explorations from these contemporary artists invite reflection and imagination. The work of these artists collectively speaks to a common drive: the desire to understand oneself and one’s surroundings through art.

The participants experimented within the wide realm of graphic expression, each choosing techniques and materials that best supported their developing ideas. Rather than working toward a predetermined concept, the artists allowed their personal experiences and questions to guide the evolution of their artworks. Christabelle Saliba turns inward, giving visual form to emotional battles related to mental health and dependency. Her pieces offer a raw, honest insight into realities often carried in silence. Greta Holland focuses on a symbol from Malta’s natural history—the long-lost Maltese falcon—to reflect on fragility, disappearance and the traces left behind when something precious is gone. Marina Natalia Gusarov looks back across generations, drawing inspiration from her mother’s early life in the Soviet Union. Her comic-style work pieces together memories, legacies and cultural identity, creating a bridge between past and present.

Together, these works illuminate how graphic art can serve as a bridge between personal experience and collective memory, inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and consider their own place within a broader cultural landscape.
