Conserving and Promoting the School of Art Legacy: A Collaborative Effort

Heritage Malta has successfully completed a significant restoration plan involving a selection of casts which form part of the MAVC Malta School of Art Gipsotecha. The restoration process was directed by Mr James Licari who was instrumental in the process of restoring and conserving the state of a selection of classical statues. The two paintings, created by renowned artists and notable students of the School of Art, Frank Portelli and Ramiro Cali, were carefully restored to their original state. These artists were outstanding students of the school, and their works represented a significant part of its artistic legacy. The restoration process was instrumental in maintaining the good condition of these valuable pieces.
In addition, two significant paintings from the School of Art collection were timely included in the restoration programme of this year thanks to the help and support of Mr. Kenneth Gambin Chief Operations Officer.
This collaborative effort between the School of Art and Heritage Malta has played a crucial role in preserving the artistic heritage of the school in order to ensure its legacy and consolidate the high-quality educational programme provided by the School of Art.

The Head of College Network Mr Victor Galea has expressed his sincere gratitude for this joint-venture, recognising its importance in safeguarding the school’s artistic heritage. The Head of School Mr Roderick Camilleri has also praised the professional work of the restorers involved, and the cooperative support offered by Mr Kenneth Gambin and Ms Ninette Sammut – Senior Conservator, and Mr Anthony Spagnol -Principal Paintings Conservator, Heritage Malta.
